NEO Messtechnik
NEO Messtechnik
NEO Messtechnik is an Austrian company based in Zöbern, specializing in power quality analysis and photovoltaic testing. As the "Home of Power Quality," they develop measurement instruments that go far beyond common standards like EN50160.
For their new Grid Impedance Analyzer (GIA), NEO Messtechnik was looking for a partner to handle the complete product development: from simulation through schematic design and layout to certification.
Grid Impedance Analyzer
Grid Impedance Measurement in the Field
- Single-phase and three-phase grid impedance measurement up to 450 kHz
- Class A++ accuracy, far beyond EN50160 and IEC61000-4-7
- Mobile operation with at least 4 hours of battery life
- Model variants GIA1 (single-phase) and GIA3 (three-phase)
- RS485 connection to PQA 8000 with multitouch display

From Simulation to Production
Embedded Solutions delivered the complete product development of the GIA. From initial simulation through schematic design to certification and documentation.
Under the Hood
STM32 Microcontroller
Powerful ARM Cortex microcontroller as the platform for signal processing and measurement control. Designed for high-precision impedance measurements in real-time.
High-Precision Measurement Chain
Frequency range up to 450 kHz with Class A++ accuracy. Measurement categories CAT II, CAT III, and CAT IV for use at various grid connection points.
RS485 and PQA 8000
Connection to the PQA 8000 system via RS485 for real-time data visualization. Multitouch display with table, 3D, and spectrometer views.
Rugged Field Design
Portable measurement case with at least 4 hours of battery life. Designed for mobile use at transformer stations and grid connection points.

PQA 8000 Visualization
The PQA 8000 system features a powerful tablet with multitouch display for on-site visualization of measurement data. Connected to the GIA via RS485, the system enables up to 4 hours of mobile operation, ideal for measurements at grid connection points and transformer stations.
Application Areas
Resonance Detection
Identification of resonance frequencies in the power grid for evaluating grid connection points and transformers.
Supraharmonic Emissions
Measurement in the 10 to 500 kHz range of emissions from renewable energy sources, inverters, and charging stations.
Power Line Communication
Grid impedance analysis in the PLC frequency range (10 to 450 kHz) for evaluating communication quality in the power grid.
